There Are Many Types Of Chiropractic Care Which Offer A Variety Of Benefits

Chiropractic care includes many different methods of care or treatment. The primary form of chiropractic care is the spinal adjustment or spinal manipulation. Chiropractors primarily use their hands to manipulate joints and tissues into their proper placement. In other words, they manually apply a force to restore joint mobility caused by a tissue injury. Spinal adjustments may also be done with an activator, an ArthroStim (TM) adjusting instrument, or the use of a drop table. People can expect to feel some pain relief immediately, with continued improvement over time and with further treatments. Chiropractic adjustments do not cause pain, although some people experience mild discomfort immediately following the adjustment.

Many chiropractic clinics offer ultrasound therapy. While medical ultrasound is diagnostic, chiropractic ultrasound therapy is similar to a mini-massage. Reduced swelling, decreased pain, stiffness and muscle spasms result from this therapy. Ultrasound also helps increase blood flow, which aids healing and makes it a good choice for many. In addition, ultrasound relaxes patients, helping their spinal maniuplations last and remain effective.

Massage therapy involves manipulating the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, stress and muscle spasms, and to promote health and wellness. Massage is performed by a manual soft tissue manipulation that includes holding, causing movement, and/or applying pressure to the body, usually with the practitioner's hands. Massage has been found to: encourage relaxation, improve posture, lower blood pressure, improve circulation, promote deeper breathing, improve range of motion, improve flexibility, strengthen the immune system, relieve headaches, improve rehabilitation after an injury or surgery, and in general enhance a person's feeling of well being.

LLLT (low level laser therapy) or Cold Laser Therapy decreases pain and enhances healing by beaming lightwaves through the laser into the affected tissues. This laser enhances the body's ability to repair itself faster. Inflammation is reduced by LLLT, making it effective for many conditions for which people seek chiropractic care. This laser is useful for back pain, neck pain including whiplash, muscle sprains, carpal tunnel syndrome, bursitis, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis and pain in all areas of the body.

Many chiropractic clinics also offer acupuncture, which is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that helps to regulate the flow of your vital energy (qi). This vital energy is believed to control your emotional, mental, physical and spiritual health. The most common form of acupuncture is the insertion of tiny needles through the skin along pathways known as meridians. Acupuncture is performed to relieve pain in your back, neck, joints or head, with back pain being the most sought after type of relief. Acupuncture is also used to control pain from dental work, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, menstrual cramps, arthritis, tennis elbow and knee injuries. Many people are starting to try acupuncture to avoid taking over the counter pain medications, which can have side effects.

Coaching in the areas of wellness and lifestyle for exercise, nutrition and ergonomics is also available at many chiropractic clinics. Chiropractors hold that the body is innately healthy, and tries to maintain good health, unless treated poorly. Following this philosophy, chiropractors examine areas that could be triggering problems, and identify possible solutions to help the body function at top performance.

Chiropractors use a wide variety of tools and techniques. The care method they choose in your treatment plan will depend on the condition they are treating, as well as what your body responds best to. Sometimes you may need to visit a few chiropractors to find the doctor that is the best fit for you.
