Why High School Football Recruiting Starts Young

By Linda Maynard

For many of the kids who have dreams of playing in the National Football League they have to start playing football at an early age. There are cases of people who have a late start and still make it but they are rare. Generally high school football recruiting starts at a young age and has a lot to do with their later career chances.

When kids start playing football there are a lot of various stages that they go through before getting all the way to the top. All of these various leagues and teams that they will play on have a part to play in either getting them there or not getting them there. While it really all depends on the individual there is also a lot that depends on other people.

These are the times that kids have their first real relationships and have to deal with adversity. They have to find a way to handle large academic loads as well as dealing with long hours of practice and the toll it takes on their body and their mind. If kids can show that they can make it through this stage and still shine, this is what colleges want to see.

Once they are in Middle School they will have already gained a pretty good knowledge of the game. They will learn much more in school and by the time they get to 8th grade they will start to be recruited by high school scouts. These scouts will come to watch their games as much as possible and they will know who they want right away.

By the time the players make it to their high school teams the coaches will be expecting them. They will get a good start on their career in football and on their way to the big leagues. However they will still have a long way to go until they get there. They can still miss out as well because it all depends on how well they do in academics and the field.

In many ways this is done like this on purpose so that they can see which players do not have the drive to push forward. They want to see which kids are going to take themselves out of the running for spots. During the first year of high school a lot of the kids who played when they were younger decide that it is no longer what they want.

When they are halfway through their schooling they will be able to start applying for colleges. All of this started when they were in middle school and it was a long road to the pros but they still have to do a lot of work to get there. When they are on the field too they need to make sure the play their best because no college will want them if they do not.

There jobs are not easy, not by a long shot. But high school football recruiting definitely has a place in the whole scheme of things. If it was not for them the colleges would make many more mistakes on who they give scholarships to and the National Football League would have many more failed draft picks.
