Liquid kratom is an extract from a certain tropical deciduous plant, which remains green for the entire year. The tree originated from southern Asia and is classified under the coffee family. It was originally described by a certain botanist from the Dutch colony. It was later given its scientific name by the same Dutch botanist. Modern day scientific researchers have conducted further research about the extract from the tree making its effects clear. It finds a lot of use in medicine.
The tree also goes by other names such as krantum and kranthom. It grows differently depending on the climatic conditions in the area. For instance, it has been observed to grow to a maximum height of 9M under ordinary conditions but when given extra care, it grows up to 30M. There are several other species under this family of trees and each has slightly different properties from the other.
Kranthum stem is erect and branches develop at intervals. The foliage is dark green in tint. The breadth of leaves is about 4 inches whereas the length grows to around 7 inches with a growth pattern of opposite. Leaves have a shape of ovate-acuminate. Flowers mostly develop at the tip of the branch in clusters.
Kranthom grows by itself in Southern regions of Asia though in other locations around the globe, it gets cultivated by humans. The tree grows healthily with no human involvement in Thailand in comparison to other places in the world where it requires special attention. Although it gets provided with much care, it still does not do very well compared to its region of origin.
Traditionally, men and boys in South Asia chew the leaves of this plant as a hobby or for pleasure. The plant is not considered harmful or as a drug in any way. As such, there is no stigma connected to the substance at all. Men start chewing it at the age of twenty five and continue till death in places where it grows naturally. However, there are some countries in the native region of this plant that make its use illegal.
Current scientific research shows that liquid extracted from kranthum has many health effects. It is composed of more than 40 unique substances including alkaloids like 7-hydroxymitragynine, mitragynine, and mitraphylline. Other active compounds consist of raubasine and corynantheidine.
It is discovered that kranthum may be used in treating a number of diseases and conditions. Addiction is one of the main uses of the substance. Treatment of addiction is possible due to the availability of Mitragyna alkaloids in the foliage of the tree. The leaves are also used in treating numerous other health conditions like diabetes, fatigue, chronic pain, anxiety, and depression. It is a good antioxidant and can also be used as a medicine for high blood pressure.
Liquid kratom is banned in some states around the world because government officials believe that is can affect people in undesirable ways. Violators are normally charged and/or sentenced to jail period. Krantum is only available in health facilities under prescription by professional medical practitioners.
